I am a visual artist who researches the relation between man and his surroundings from a humanistic point of view. Considering both the internal and the external facets through staged photographic portraits. My work evolves around humans: their appearances, their psyche and their emotions. Centralising the human subject, I draw links in all directions. These links are focused on a specific aspect: man against himself, man versus man, man confronting society. So far I have done research on various topics: identity, beauty ideals, (ab)normality, medical abnormalities, skin, perception, gender bending and uniqueness in contrast to uniformity. To extend my research, I make Bilderatlassen with images from magazines, texts from books and works of other artists, thus creating an idea of the image I wants to make. My sketchbook is a second important instrument for my research. Through photographs, drawings and texts, I states how I want the final project to look. Describing the atmosphere, the feeling, the kind of model, the type of exposure, each with the questions “what?” and “why?”. I believe that art should be made with emotions and that the artist must be one with the moment in which the work is created. In doing so I want the viewer to experience a mood or emotion. My series are a reflection of society’s conventions. specifically this means that, the images show a certain uniformity, the only thing that “disturbs” is that which is not uniform to the rest. Because of this the non conformist element, that which makes us unique , gets accentuated.
