Previously it belonged to the order Ciconiiformes. Traditionally all species were included in the genus Phoenicopteruss, but today the Andean flamingo and James's flamingo are considered a separate genus, Phoenicoparrus, because of certain differences in the beak, and the lesser flamingo has also been included in its own genus, Phoeniconaias. They are wading birds, with a curved beak, measuring between 90 and 150 cm. Their color comes from a diet rich in carotenes, which are pigments that they obtain from algae and shrimp, for example. * Prints on paper: contact directly by email.
