About The Artwork

On this journey called life we strive to ascend. This piece is about that struggle and the unseen energies (here depicted) around us as we journey toward becoming a spiritually enlightened being who in past incarnations was an ordinary human, but who has now undergone a series of spiritual transformations or initiations

Zola is an artist and curator who grew up in the beautiful wild rose country of Alberta with its big skies, far horizons and fabulous thunderstorms. The beauty of nature and the natural world informs most of her work. She enjoys surrealism, with its elements of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions, and non sequitur. She gained her BFA at the Alberta College of Art studying Jewelry, Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting and Glass, both hot and cold, blowing and casting. Her work is multi-media as she also incorporates photographic elements. More recently she has discovered the joys of videography, still slideshows, photoshop, collage, and decoupage. These new media (computers and photoshop didn't exist back in Zola's art college days) have allowed more of the images in her head to be translated into reality and expanded her art practice tremendously. Now she is exploring moving her designs off canvas and onto other objects, re-purposing furniture, working with found objects and creating dioramas. She is developing a line of eco friendly bags and clothing featuring her designs. Zola is a volunteer for Mission Possible Studioworks where she teaches art to others. Currently she is being mentored by the Community Arts Council of Vancouver and the Roundhouse, where she will be exhibiting her new work in August 2014. Zola is based in Vancouver.
