About The Artwork

The seahorse - another one of the world's most intriguing underwater creatures that changes its colours. Captured here by the stroke of a brush and blending of colours as if the seahorse is changing colour in front of our eyes. There are 54 species of the delicate seahorses and some are becoming very rare. Here for you, is a pair of beautiful small seahorses, ready to place together with another seahorse, octopus or fish print or create your own "aquarium". The print is made with oil and water colour paints and fine Japanese papers; layers of which are mounted together for durability and structure, signed and sealed by master printer - Nishikawara

Paula grew up in Vancouver, Canada, daughter of a Japanese father and Dutch mother. Informed by West Coast nature, organic forms, water, mountains, often wild landscapes and a parallel study of human machinations, Paula's work is commentary on human condition and conditioning in found environment. Pieces are created as physical experience; works hang, swing, drape, become object, or result is in traditional form. Her work is rooted in exploration, inquiry and curiosity and evolves from flat surface to three dimension or performance dependent on concept and context. Her installations are experiences and participatory.
