About The Artwork

This is one of a series of monotypes. The papers were first painted using watercolor and then 2 linocut plate were printed (cranium and jaw) separately. The plates were printed with varying degrees apart so that the teeth were different distances from each other for each print (thereby implying that the skull was talking when multiple prints were shown together). The plates were often printed in different colors in order to allow for color experimentations and to reflect that just like people, we may all have skulls but we are not all the same. This series reflects the artists love affair with printmaking as it was his first experiments as an artist. He continues to ignore the basic benefit of printmaking (making multiples of the same image) in order to use the process more like a painting rather than a print.

I've always had a love affair with making the hand made image. Exploring my imagination and setting up challenges through thematic works has allowed me to tap into an eternal wellspring of ideas. After my early training, I began creating series of works that allowed me to invent within a defined framework. Sometimes, these series would last years before I felt that I had exhausted them. The themes are often autobiographical and sometimes reference real-world events but the commonality is always a love affair with the basics of art: line, shape and color.
