About The Artwork

A gardener and a rose Need each other For refining their petals, For cultivating yearnings - For a pillow softness of Living in a dream. This soft sculpture utilizes very old materials together with some newer fabrics. I used a vintage Chinese satin quilted coat for its beautiful quilting lines and softness of cotton lining. The inside becomes the skin of this sculpture and lets this creature assume poses that it truly likes. Smaller rose shapes become the creature's permanent 3D tattoos, on her body and on her neck, a larger rose is a separate object using a safety pin to be attached to the creature's hand. No hard elements in this sculpture - all hand-sewn vintage silks and cotton. I left the cotton surface untouched, without use of protective sprays, desiring to preserve the skin softness. The creature is meant to age as a human does, going through wear and tear of the years.

Poetry, music, rebellion, femininity, humour and wonder of my world reveal themselves in images, both soft and hard, always mysterious, always in layers of meaning. My stories emerge like flowers opening up their petals, one at a time, as I try to bring to light all the facets of a certain moment in time, of a beautiful memory. But in the end, or in the beginning, it's all about love. I explore painting as a connection to our human vulnerability, of which love is its ultimate manifestation. https://www.instagram.com/gone_with_chinook/
