About The Artwork
From the depths of the sea, a large Bass strikes upwards through the kelp fighting its way through the fronds. On the receiving end two Mackerel split from the shoal, swimming for their lives. As they do, so the sun hits the surface of the water sending its rays down into the depths. A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted, the fish were achieved through quilting and embroidery. The fronds were achieved through three dimensional textiles techniques. Unfortunately, this doesn't show particularly well on the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.
