HORSE HEAD fragment, hand-hammered in Corten steel, in brutalist style. Cosé Manzano is fascinated by skin and outer shell, and in his sculpture he is investigating how far he can go by leaving out shape and material and still feel the essence of the being that he's 'portaying'. Cosé created the Horse Head on the anvil, alternating heating and hammering the steel: the texture of the work still shows the marks of making. The Horse Fragment is hollow, only suggesting the outer shell of the animal. The work actually shows the ‘face’: from half way the ears, down to the forehead and nose, and cut just above the nostrils. This original and One Of A Kind piece of art, can to be displayed on a pedestal or, as it is, on a flat surface (as if the horse has its muzzle in the 'water').

Sculptors Cosé Manzano (Spain) and Anne Klein H. (the Netherlands) live and work in the South West of Spain. Both work in metal sculpture and installations. They established the KleinManzano art-collective in 2013 and their works can be found in collections in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the Unites States. Artist's Statements: Cosé Manzano: 'Direct metal sculpting like hammering, cutting and welding is my preferred technique. My raw material is metal bar or metal sheet which I intuitively shape, bend and hammer into figurative sculpture. But I can also be captured by a found object or synthetic material. I find inspiration in animals and the land that surrounds us, and also in architecture and contemporary art. In my current work I focus on skin ‘transported’ to metal, and on metrical shapes I see in nature. Although we don’t literally work together on the same art works, working together as KleinManzano reinforces my direction, inner sense and reference in art.' Anne Klein H.: 'I make sculpture in various techniques: metal sheet and mixed media assemblage, using wood, glass, ceramics, metal and leather, often with found or re-used pieces. My work can have a symbolic or surrealist tendency. I get inspiration from social and personal issues (like women and society, or living in a foreign country), but also materials inspire me, as do nature and architecture. To me KleinManzano is a very motivating way of finding reference and structure, stand together and get deeper into art.'
