About The Artwork

The relief sculpture is made of painted plaster with faux fur detail; it is mounted on a stained wooden panel with sawtooth mounting bracket on the back. The series is inspired by the kingdoms of life in terms of the evolution and biology of all living things. On the universal scale, the kingdom of humans, animals, fungi, etc. is more or less homogenous as compared to the sterile void of non-being. The work itself invites the viewer to place themselves outside of the teleological human-centric framework which operates linearly from birth to death of one individual and to consider the unseen or rather unnoticed sentient kingdom of all life around them.

Eve Barden is a practicing visual artist whose studio work focuses on narrative-driven immersive installation, that includes sculpture, projection mapping, experimental animation, and spoken word. Eve actively participates in local and international art exhibitions, publishes film reviews and other media-related writing, and regularly participates in international academic conferences related to art, film, and culture. In her studio practice, Eve Barden aims to explore the ontological dependence between objecthood/subjecthood, the self/other, and the modular nature of cognition through the artistic process of de-/re-construction and compositing. Her visual language employs stylistic devices historically related to the concepts of the absurd, the grotesque, and the uncanny with the focus on the act of defragmentation, refraction, juxtaposition, and semantic overcoding.
