About The Artwork

With a designer’s concept, as an artist Lawrie has been working with objet trove for over 20 years.
His artworks consist mainly of sculptures taken
from nature, wildlife, created using found objects mostly metal and wood. Along the streets where he walks he might come across a piece for the next sculpture. Most iconic is the use of scythes and gardening
implements, using scissors as a beak for his fascinating sculptures of flamingoes and other birds. Simonson’s first solo exhibition dates back to1993,at the London Ecology Centre in Covent Garden London. Since then he participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions, as well as participating in school workshops & educational events.

Brought up in North London recognised as one of Britain’s foremost avant-garde sculptors. Lawrie Simonson spent his childhood observing the local insect and animal life which still inspire his work. Lawrie’s quirky pieces are created from objet trouvé discovered on regular trips to automotive scrap yards and flea markets, combined with kitchen objects that catch his eye. His humorous pieces are based on serious observations of nature and range in size from a 3 metre water bird to a tiny chrome spider. Lawrie’s many corporate and public commissions include Hampton Court Palace and Hainault Forest Country Park, Capel Manor Enfield and the Oxo Tower. Lawrie has exhibited in galleries all over Europe and the UK. His work is held in private collections in the USA, Europe & Middle East
