Saggezza is a bronze sculpture of a man with a rhino mask or hat. The title (wise in Italian) refers to one of the metaphorical meanings of the Rhino symbol in ancient cultures: agility, solitary, wisdom, paradox, freedom, stability, gratitude, longevity, judgment, and grounding and peace of mind. For he artist, a Rhino reminds her a peaceful and wise creature, that doesn’t rush in life, and ponder things with calm to make choices that are good for it, without judging others or being fearful of other judgments. This piece is part of a special collection Francesca Dalla Benetta started in 2018, called Customs and Identities, and it is a reflection about how many costumes we wear in front of people, the society, family and so on. We have roles that are different for each person we meet in life, so we try to adapt and respond to that particular role. Sometime we align, sometimes we react. That’s how we build our personality. This piece has a black and green patina, the classical bronze colors. The black patina is made from the green one, after the burning process, so magical and mystical.

STATEMENT: Francesca Dalla Benetta's work is characterized by mixed anatomies and forms. Human faces and bodies are combined with different textures, skins and elements, giving rise to hybrid beings. Through her aesthetics, in balance between the classic and the surreal, the artist studies the themes of transformation, sense of belonging and self-perception, the ability to adapt, stereotypes and categorization. She searches for the fine line that separates personal identity from social conventions, sanity from madness, studying the differences between perception and reality. Francesca's figures are a look inward and out of control, they are a way of containing the uncontainable. The stories of each character, isolated in an intimate and unreal dimension, are reflections on the identity of misfits and the many facets of being. As an artist, her most important task is to communicate and stimulate a different way of feeling and thinking. She mainly resorts to sculpture because it is a lasting solidity in contrast to the volatility of the mind.
