About The Artwork

I think this is the most challenging thing I've done. This is an all glass, fused mosaic. Each feather is a tiny shard of glass, and was placed using a needle-nosed tweezer. The details of the beak were created with glass frit and powders. As I was working on this, I started encountering owls in real life. First, I saw a horned owl on a telephone pole, then soon after that I discovered a pygmy owl just outside my studio. The biggest thrill was the day I brought this piece out of the kiln, when I heard two horned owls calling to one another, one only 50 feet away from me. I tried calling to them, but they weren't falling for it. As realistic as this appears, when it's lit from behind, it changes completely, revealing purples and teal blue amongst the more natural colours. I would display it on a picture rail I think, so that a bit of light can come through from behind. It could also be placed directly on the wall, using hanging hardware from somewhere like Hang Your Glass.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I've been working with glass for over 20 years in my studio in British Columbia, Canada. My eyesight is such that I like to be close to a piece as I'm creating it, so I spend a lot of time hovering over my workspace. For the same reason, I suppose, I like to work with tiny pieces of glass, which I then fuse together. I use my Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/SarahMillerArt/ to share the process of creating my art, because I think fused glass is still a mystery to a lot of people. I'm having trouble uploading photos to Saatchi Art, so let me know via my Facebook page if you'd like to see more views of any of my art.
