About The Artwork

"Echoes from the Mediterranean Sea" is an art exhibition which reveals the beauty of the most representative icons of the ancient civilization of Magna Graecia, which have led to the development of those positive values that are the driving force of human progress and are found in all cultures worldwide. "The inspiration of this art exhibition comes from the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea - says Joseph Caristena - surrounded by coasts connecting lands, peoples and ideas for centuries." With these values it is possible to rethink our society with a common idea for development yet beyond the instable and current model of globalization. The first collection called "Denda - The Corinthians Helmets" is a wonderful opportunity to deeply discover the European civilization that has its roots in the glorious past of Magna Graecia which developed an extremely advanced civilization in various fields, such as art, science and philosophy. "The Corinthians Helmets - Denda Collection" is an innovative cultural art format designed to fit perfectly and exaclty in any location of the museum of XXI century. "Museums today must be considered as places of transition and intercultural dialogue, where visitors from passive users switch into dynamic, highly motivated audiences, becoming also part of both the cultural art format itself and of the creative process" says Joseph Caristena. Each helmet is a unique piece of art, full life size hand modeled in majolica ceramics by the best master craftsmen living in the southern part of Italy (Sicily and Calabria) . The helmet was somewhat restricted in visibility but provided outstanding protection for the head, neck and face. The Greek hoplite soldier relied on his full head of hair and beard for the needed cushion inside the helmet. Plus it makes the wearer look like an anonymous and featureless entity. The classic Greek Corinthian style helmet is the single most aesthetically pleasing piece of military equipment ever created. Beaten and hammered from a single sheet of bronze by master craftsmen, these helmets today are appreciated as one of the most beautiful pieces of Ancient Greece. The Corinthian helmet conveys a sense of hostility toward the enemy dehumanizing the soldier who wears it.
