About The Artwork
This particular sculpture has two distinct 'sides' to it. The side pictured is torn, pierced, rough, unfinished, stitched and carved. The other side is carved, finished perfectly, smoothed and sanded. The natural, unfinished porcelain is sanded by hand to a smooth finish that reminds me of bone, and the translucent qualities of the thinned porcelain give the illusion of transparent skin when held to light. A flameless candle can be placed in the bottom of the sculpture to cast incredible shadows in dimly lit areas.

These sculptures are made from high fired porcelain and finished only by hours of hand polishing and sanding. The translucence nature of the porcelain when fired allows for her to 'thin' areas of the sculpture, and when held to light, take on a translucent nature.
