Vessel #3 Ceramic Vessel, Glazed Earthenware Clay. Organic forms evolve, amidst the sharp spears of clay which juxtapose against curvaceous forms of this vessel. Intricacies and voids of space are created in this piece. Colour is used in a very controlled way, although seemingly sporadic it is carefully applied with many layers of glazes built up over long periods of time. This piece questions our involvement and interaction, within the landscape and ultimately what we add to it. The sharp spears of clay are piercing through the very fabric of our world...

b. 1988 Alex J Wood has twice received awards in 2017 and 2015 from The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, Canada where his work is held and was announced winner of The Picton Art Prize in 2016 with his large 2.5 metre bronze sculpture ‘Celestial’. He’s been shortlisted for The Mark Tanner Award, Henry Moore Plinth Prize & Clifford Chance award twice. Alex recently exhibited in ‘Air’ at The Royal West of England Academy, Bristol. Alex recently took part in the International Artists Symposium residency and exhibition in Neustadt, Germany in August 2017. Alex was resident artist in Beijing & Tokyo in 2014 & 2013. Whilst studying for MA Fine Art at Chelsea, he received The Patrick and Kelly Lynch Scholarship where his work is held, as well as in various other collections. British eccentricity is the main focus of Alex's practice where he juxtaposes unusual objects with hand crafted sculptures, for example a large scale model of the Titanic sits awkwardly on a bronze oil slick, questioning feats of human endeavour.
