Santiago Chile

Santiago is a city defined by its hill islands - ancient mountain peaks and cinder cones which now rise above the wide, flat expanse the city is built upon. The flat plain of the city was created when glacial till filled in the deep valley floor during the last major ice age, leaving only these once-towering ancient peaks poking up as hill islands above the flat plain. This collection of original mixed-media paintings and drawings investigates the role of the hills in the organization, use, and experience of the city. Three themes emerged from this study and are captured within the works; Protection, Progress, and the idea of Oasis.
