About The Artwork

This work is created after I lost my house from 2015 mega earthquake. I have created collage of people and places that i connected with during the period of relief and art healing in the area on my entire body as a memory. In the background that is my own house that i lost in the earthquake.

Kailash K Shrestha is a contemporary artist based in Kathmandu, Nepal born in Gairimudi village, Dolakha and has received Masters in Fine Arts. His several years of art practices have employed a variety of visual languages, initiatives and engagements to create narratives that are both personal and relatable. His current series of artworks criticize, question, comment and satire to the deeply rooted malpractice contemporary political context and its consequences and social behavior that has hugely impacted each and every aspect of human kind as well as ecology. The local identity in the global context is the center of focus in his art practice that demands diverse engagements and mediums from the daily newspapers to photographs, paintings, drawings and other experimental mediums. Mr Shrestha founded, Artudio, A Centre for Contemporary Visual Arts based in Kathmandu in 2010 right after 3 years of his graduation and have initiated various art projects not just focusing within the art community but also with children, youth and adults from various backgrounds in different communities and public spaces. He has also lead the “Rivers of the World” International Art Project by Thames festival Trust implemented in partnership with British Council in 2017/18 in Nepal where he engaged thousands of children and youth from different region of Nepal including Dolakha, Pokhara, Kathmandu and so on. He is the First Recipient of the Prestigious Young Artist Award from The Australian Himalayan Foundation in 2009 and has participated in several national and international workshops and residencies along with two solo exhibitions and many national and international group exhibitions including, Kathmandu International Arts Festival, Asian Art biennale and Kathmandu Triannale. Mr Shrestha has also established A Pran Community Art Centre in his birthplace Gairimudi, Dolakha after the earthquake and initiated and curated “Dolakha Album” art residency in the center and in the community itself as part of the long-term vision of the center. Shrestha has curated exhibitions of UNHCR and IOM’s, Marking the 100,000 Resettlement of Bhutanese Refugees and co-curated Yantra 4.0 Art.Tech.Science exhibition.
