Due to the acetate that I painted to look and act like a mirror, Camille was super difficult to photograph, and these photos fall short of her real beauty! I was hoping to portray a strong, beautiful woman looking to the future and not worrying about the mirror behind her and how she looks in it to determine her self-worth. Her stance is casual yet confident and she's glaring at us from underneath her arm and through her thick head of hair, just daring us to judge her. Camille's lingerie is all made from fabrics, and her hair is yarn. The mirror behind her is made of acrylic that I painted to look like mirror, then I added a watercolor wash to create her reflection. Everything that is black is the mat board that Camille is drawn on and glued to. Camille is framed in a 1 1/2" (shadow box) deep matte black frame, and she looks great in it. If you'd like a photo of her framed, I'd be happy to send you one.

Drawing and painting since the age of six, I have always been involved with art in one way or another. My mom (Arline Wagner) is an accomplished artist as well as my brother (Neil Blender), and their successes with their art have been inspirational for me. As a senior in high school I was super lucky to have been awarded two scholarships to the Pasadena Art Center College of Design where I got to attend four hour classes on Saturdays throughout the school year where we would draw from live models wearing costumes or bathing suits. It was probably one of the funnest art experiences that I've ever had, and it was a great intro to life drawing. Initially, I wanted to be a fashion illustrator, but I got sidetracked with this and that. Over the years I have taken a variety of classes ranging from drawing, painting, ceramics, and printmaking to stained glass, photography, computer graphics, and art history. And although I’m more of a graphic artist after years of classes, and doing freelance work, I have recently gotten back into fine art with my mixed media fabric women, and my part-time obsession of photographing all things having to do with liquid and light.
