Collage: Plastic, thread on Canvas, Plastic, Soft (Yarn, Cotton, Fabric).
This piece is inspired by New York City: small alleyways, huge avenues, cracked pavement, glass skyscrapers, brick storefronts, vibrant graffiti, grand bridges and rusting fire escapes. The George Washington Bridge is frequently seen on my commute and always awes with its muscular architecture.
I enjoy using recycled materials in my artwork. I strive to make them all look like treasures, regardless of their origin. They must be undetectable in my work, transformed into something sophisticated and beautiful.
This piece is constructed from plastic shopping bags machine stitched on to felt with outlines of NYC skyscrapers. The GWB is hand stitched with a variety of variegated cotton threads. The art is mounted on stretched canvas with painted edges. It's wired for hanging or maybe framed.
