I find these images in old and largely forgotten magazines. Their age and cheap black and white reproduction attract me as it allows their to be a sense of nostalgia and a lack of brash colour and any ideas of colourful newness. By accident this dogfish I had cut out fell onto the upside down image of the seabirds nesting and it clicked with me, slightly disorientating the viewer and in my mind a comment on the 'natural' world and how we as humans continue to effect it without any thought of the future of any of the species which share this planet. We worry about over population whilst animals frequently cope with over crowding. Collage to me is a catalyst to make new paintings and an end in themselves.
