ABOUT THE ARTWORK

An original paper and wood 3D map dot collage is made from pieces of vintage maps atlases and charts from books of up to 150 years old. I am particularly drawn the vintage litho print of the maps which has sharp contrast between colour and typography old litho print methods often have halos or slight offset colours. The colours of the map shave been selected for ther soft greens, yellows and limes. I have carefully extracted the old plates, bonded them onto birch plywood boards giving them a textured hand-painted surface texture. The sheets are then laser cut into 100 3cm dots. The artwork comes ready framed in white. Unframed size 50x50cm Framed 55x55cm x 5cm deep.

Abstract artist, Amelia Coward is renowned for her explorations into mixing, blending and grading colours, with a growing international profile. Born in 1975, she holds a 1st class Honours from Central St Martins and MA from the Royal College of Art. Her artworks can be found in both private and corporate collections worldwide. Amelia creates artworks that focus on the interaction of colours combined with the carefully composed spacial balance between geometric elements such as circles and stripes. Influenced by her woven textile training she uses laser cutters much the same way as she was trained to use a loom, cutting geometric shapes then reassembling them in patchwork compositions. Located in a traditional Oast Barn in the Kent countryside, Amelia combines her prolific making of new pieces with her commercial giftware business, Bombus. Each influences the other. Amelia has a team of creative makers in her studio to help to assemble, photograph, frame and pack all the works.
