About The Artwork
GRRR is the noise of the street, the buzz-saw of the news cycle, the constant low growl in the throat. What is it like to try to live peacefully, contentedly, lovingly while the animals roar? Can there be quiet in the midst of these troubling noises? GRRR made me look inward, turning my art from star gazing to navel gazing. Continuing the search for answers through my practice of mining art history, popular culture, and my sometimes funny, sometimes scary darker side made me ask: How did I get here? What masks do I wear and still hide behind? Why is it a growl and not more?

Brad Greenwood is a Los Angeles based artist. Greenwood is a graduate of The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His New York City solo exhibitions include Eat the Wolf in November 2012 at La MaMA Galleria and Unauthorized Biographies at Mixed Greens Gallery in November 2013. He returned to La MamA Galleria with the solo exhibition Star Maps in October 2015. Partly Fiction, featured ten years of works on paper opened at Steven Amedee Gallery in May 2016. His most recent solo show Grrr is currently on view at Steven Amedee Gallery in Tribeca until October 30th. Greenwood has also shown in numerous group exhibitions in New York and Philadelphia. He also served as Development Director of P.S.1/MoMA and curated multiple shows for HERE Art Center in New York.
