About The Artwork

Ramanujan’s story of human triumph over adversity inspired this bold, dynamic mixed-media collage. He was born in Madras, India, raised by his mother with little financial means, little formal training in mathematics, and had a hard time finding a job. However, his passion for mathematics drove him to overcome the mundane and become one of the youngest Fellows of the Royal Society and the first Indian to be elected a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. He made substantial contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions. Ramanujan was the mathematician depicted in the movie “The Man Who Knew Infinity,” and his work is still being researched today and has been used to understand black hole physics and types of string theory. The vibrant acrylic paint colors, open-sourced and decorative papers, and reflect his vivid culture and brilliant mind. The pattern of recurring circles represents the circular nature of the bold, bright ideas which made up his genius. Each painting's content is researched and curated to include the most notable works, awards, and accomplishments of the highlighted individual. The sides of the 1.5" canvas are painted so a collector could hang the collage directly on a wall or have it framed. The collage is coated with several coats of high gloss varnish to enhance the color and beauty of the piece.
