About The Artwork

Only lately have I felt up to dealing with the terrors of extinction and the wars which European people had to face in the last century. The painting on hand shows grandparents with their grandchildren.Their son respectively their father is not present. At their feet there is a collage of iron grids, and bone which both stand for the extinction of the Jewish population; torn handmade lace which symbolizes the loss of culture and civilization; a first-aid wrapping as a reminder of the wounds which were inflicted and a photography of tank traces which hint at the devastation of the country.

Elke Bohm Painter and sculptor Berlin, Germany Group exhibitions Galerie Fukuyama Kleinmachnow/ Berlin 2006; Galerie Fukuyama Kleinmachnow/ Berlin 2007; Schweißsalon/ Berlin 2010; Open Studios and Gardens/ Caputh 2011; GEHAG/ Berlin 2011 Filed by Galleria d'Arte Gagosian/ Rome 2013; individual exhibition at " Kunstkammer Friedenau"/ Berlin, 2016. Another individual ehibition is planned in May 2021, provided there is no lockdown. Pictures What all these pictures have in common are their intrinsic dynamics. Sometimes this shows in the brush work, sometimes in the ambiguity of a posture. Even seemingly peaceful paintings are disquieting as soon as you see them next to their companions. Tools and Finds Tools and hardware are not only thrown away when they are broken, but when they are still in good repair, too, because there are new gadgets to replace them. I appreciate the beauty of these artefacts and think they will soon be admired in technical museums. Up to then I will endeavour to lay my hands on some of them.
