About The Artwork

The collage consists of manipulated and entire postage stamps originating from the UK. The Queen is pictured on every stamp. Slightly differing in size from about 0.5 to 1.2 cm, the Queen's silhouette portrait is depicted in a beautiful range of colors. The cut out tiny silhouette portraits are arranged carefully next to each other in consideration of their shape, size and color. In between the small heads, entire stamps are shown, resulting in a harmonious image composition. On some stamps, letters, words or dates of the postmark are visible. These traces contain history, evoking thoughts of travel, love letters or past times, when posted letters where a more important and routine form of communication. Dimensions: 40 x 29.6 x 0.1 cm material: Stamps (used) on natural-white paper, acid-free. hand-signed and dated on the backside further information on https://www.skolovski.com/artwork-2016-2017/

I am a mixed-media artist living and working in Berne, Switzerland. Art is a perfect medium for me to share my ideas. Our thoughts, believes, feelings and the way we look at things effect the experiences in our lives. In my artwork I reflect and aim to convey this. My medium of choice is paper. Paper permits an immediate and intimate way of creation that I appreciate. I am interested in the texture of paper, and the myriad possibilities working with the material allows. The techniques I mainly use in my artworks are collage and assemblage in combination with drawing, painting or printing. I work with images taken from magazines, the internet, postcards, leaflets, stamps, personal photographs and other printed paper. Occasionally I include objects in an assemblage manner such as found box frames, fragments of mirrors, wire, and natural matter, rendering the images more complex by adding different layers and surfaces. The artworks have a seductive quality generated by the motive and the haptic materiality; the very physical presence of texture. I am inspired by images or landscapes I come across. Often, I draw inspiration from an interesting quote, a philosophical thought, a story, a dream or an intriguing concept I read about. There is also a part in my work that is politically inspired. I am interested in topics concerning nature and social issues.
