The present day politics in the USA and a recent residency not far from the Slave Owners House in Rockville, MD was the inspiration for this piece. The House still stands and is now the Montgomery County Historical Society. The house belonged to the Bell-Dawson sisters. The doll was in the slave quarters of the house and became an important part of my research hence she is Welcoming present day visitors to this House. The work is executed in textiles using stitch as drawing and mark making.

United States
1944.Nairobi,Kenya. Most of my life has been spent in the UK and USA where I was also educated and have made my home. Travel has played an important part of my life and work. The work is influenced by place, time and memory. The artwork is textile based in which stitchery, collage and stitch is used in conjunction with digital photography. Recent work is in collaboration with a Poet in which the text is layered with stitch to add density of surface. These works are executed on handmade felt.
