Evangile Papavassiliou was born in Athens on 19 April 1956, in a family of Orthodox priests on the paternal side and of artists, musicians and painters on the maternal side. His family left the Colonels Greece in a hurry in the 60s and knew the pains of exile and poverty both in England and Germany before settling for good in Belgium. His father, being unable to practice as an Orthodox priest, worked as a miner at the "Hasard coalmine" in Retinne. Dark childhood in the shadow of slag heaps. Deeply marked by his ancestors' religion and the misery of mine workers, Evangile Papavassiliou nowadays lives in the Belgian Ardennes. He is a visionary artist, of powerful and mystic inspiration. A strong work springs from the depths of his soul. Molenbeek Academy of Arts (1980-1989) : painting (Henry Van Eepoel) and history of arts (Serge Goyens de Heusch) Boistfort Academy of Arts (1988-1990) : monumental painting (Pierre Fromont) Brussels Royal Accademy of Arts (1989-1992): engraving (Roger Dewint et Igor Swingedau) and lithography (Josée Leybaert) Graduate in fine arts and applied arts as well as in history of arts.
