Evening lights in the Tuscany hills, Val d'Orcia. The Val d'Orcia UNESCO World Heritage cultural site is located in the agricultural hinterland of Siena, in Central Italy, and includes the historic centers and much of the territory of the municipalities of San Quirico d'Orcia, Castiglione d'Orcia, Montalcino, Pienza, and Radicofani. The Val d'Orcia is an outstanding example of the redesign of the landscape in the Renaissance, illustrating the ideals of good governance in the 14th and 15th centuries of the Italian city-state and the aesthetic quest that guided its conception. The landscape of the Val d'Orcia was celebrated by the painters of the Sienese School that flourished in the Renaissance period, and its images, particularly the depictions of landscapes in which people are depicted living in harmony with nature, became an icon of the Renaissance that profoundly influenced thinking about landscape. A combination of Art and Landscape, geographic space and ecosystem, it is an expression of wonderful natural features but it is also the result and testimony of the people who live there, and thanks to this it is possible to relive the Renaissance age, an era that the Orca Valley and Tuscany can still boast of today.
