CHICK SOLO FLIGHT. 2017. Drawing

First, the wings begin to falteringly flap. The rhythm is confused so she stops.There is a tightness in her chest and her legs buckle as she vehemently tries to keep them lodged on the rim of the nest. She tries again but still one wing takes over, leaving the other to drop and grope at an invisible support. One leg has become brave or inadvertently slipped out of control, causing the the other to buckle even more, only now, there is only contact with her toe-claws. Her mid-line is vibrating with horror and after seeing death at her door,and listening to her Mother screaming "Get Out!" she forces her eyes skywards, as if imploring for a greater help. Then she flaps like she never thought possible, aligns her legs and lets go of everything in her past. She flies.She is now a woman.
