DEVOTION Drawing

"This is what the Lord says about you, His beloved. I didn't say it, it's in here!" *** This work is inspired by my Christian (Adventist denomination) father, who painstakingly led a begrudging group of five in morning devotions every Sunday while I was growing up. Within this drawing, I have captured the personalities and moods of my lovely nuclear family in such a setting, comical as they may be, which translate even now that we are no longer physically together. The furniture featured in this piece are direct sketches of the ones that are present in my father's home and have been starring in the story of our lives for years, the newest being a decade old. Even the King James' Version bible is a relic in the Odoemenam home. The rough and slightly turbulent lines and stark contrasts depict the differences in and the liveliness of my home that can be observed even while we all attempted to follow strict rules (my father was a bit of a disciplinarian.) All in all, the piece is a description of one of the core activiies in my Adventist childhood home that fostered bonds within my family. I hope the oil warms your heart as much as it does mine.
