About The Artwork
I have been obsessed with the now deceased Leigh Bowery, a fashion designer, performance artist and crosser of conventional boundaries. He would dress up in the most uncomfortable transgressive outfits and haunt the night clubs of 80s London. i would like to think that I was dancing near him at some mad night in Heaven under the arches in Charing Cross or at Taboo, although I probably didn't, only in my head. His work and life crossed into the world of animals in that he often saw no red lights to his desires and wants. So I am celebrating his life with a double portrait with my favourite primate, the mandril. This charcoal drawing was made on a piece of found MDF and is not intended to be framed, as I love to see the quality of the 'fallen' charcoal dust which is fixed after it fell from the stick of charcoal I was using. I want also to elevate animals to equal status as humans.

Drawing, performance, assemblage, film, collage, oil painting and the re-use of materials and objects is central to his work. Tim won the Ovalhouse prize at Chelsea College of Art, and Gloucester University prize at the Open West in 2015. He is a member of the committee of the Newlyn Society of Artists. Has exhibited in Berlin and Baku Zdonov in the Czech Republic and is represented by Daisy Laing, Penzance, Avalon in Marazion and Jupiter Newlyn.
