About The Artwork
The teacher stands near issuing instructions to the student as she struggles with her new instrument. The student hugs the drum tightly, hooking a part under her elbow on one side. At the same time, she tries beating frantically with her other hand. Both actions cause the drum to become at one with her body that is now seriously rigid. The teacher begins to orchestrate tempo with an invisible string from her own hand to the beginners in an attempt to formulate a natural beat and rhythm.
