This painting belongs to the series Mystic Forest. This series shows fantasy landscapes in which humans and animals seem to be included in the whole. We are largely ignorant of life in the forest, we hardly understand how trees, plants and animals live together. We often look fragmented as if we are taking snapshots, a branch here, a bird there, but in the forest we feel connected at a deeper level. In this series I try to investigate our relation to nature. 'God is dead' as Nietzsche said, there is no afterlife so we have to try to find meaning in our lives. I think we can find this meaning in nature, as we áre nature. I think we can connect to ourselves and to each-other in the woods because there is no distraction, we feel joy because of the colors, all the complicated lines and forms give peace of mind, the smell of green, the near and the far. It makes that we can really feel and think and be alive for as long as it lasts.

Drawing is for me like storytelling in images. We are all struggling to find meaning in our lifes and I like to investigate how we do that. A central theme in my work is being 'comfortably numb', pleasantly numb. How do you live your life? Open, touchable, vulnerable, on the border of the unpleasant or quiet, easy and comfortable but withdrawn and hidden? Caring and contact versus carelessness and loneliness. Comfort versus pain. Living versus sleeping. What is "real" and how much life can we bear? I love drawing while it is a non-pretentious media. It gives me the possibility to experiment with a lot of materials and mix them together, like pencils, gouache, inks, markers etc. My work is colorfull, a bit fairytale-like but mostly with a bit darker twist in it. Lately I discovered Acrylic-Gouache. It had the touch and feel of matte and opaque from gouache but when it is dry it is waterproof and that allows me to work in multiple bright layers. I'm really in love with this paint! All my paintings and drawing will be shipped unframed because of shipping cost. (Even if you see them framed in pictures of them in exhibitions!) If you like a painting/drawing framed please contact me.
