Timothy Olaniyi

About the Artist

Timothy Olaniyi

Nigeria

Artist Bio — Olaniyi Timothy (b. 2003)

Young, multidisciplinary, and exquisite, Olaniyi Timothy (b. 2003) is an emerging Nigerian artist from Oyo, Oyo State, whose work embodies resilience, spirituality, and the beauty of African identity. His passion for art was ignited in childhood, inspired by his elder sister’s creative practice. Observing her artistic process nurtured his own curiosity and inspired a lifelong dedication to the visual arts.

To refine his craft, Olaniyi apprenticed under a renowned local artist, where he developed a strong technical foundation and began to cultivate his distinct voice. Currently pursuing a degree in Fine and Applied Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, he continues to expand his creative expression through exploration, study, and experimentation.

Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, Olaniyi employs a unique form of impasto realism — a richly textured approach that celebrates the depth, tone, and vitality of African skin. His portraitures transcend mere representation, exploring themes of resilience, faith, and hope amidst adversity.

Inspired deeply by scripture and spirituality, Olaniyi’s art conveys uplifting messages that invite viewers to see themselves through a divine and empowered lens. His works are visual meditations — stories of strength and transformation that encourage reflection, self-worth, and a renewed vision of one’s purpose in the world.

Olaniyi’s passion lies in using art as a powerful medium for storytelling and connection. He seeks to create visually captivating pieces that not only beautify spaces but also resonate emotionally, leaving a lasting impression on the viewer. His paintings are ideal for collectors and galleries seeking works that are aesthetically striking, spiritually evocative, and profoundly human.

Artist Statement

“My art is a celebration of resilience — a visual language through which I express the strength, dignity, and divine beauty of the African spirit.”

In my practice, I explore how the human face and form can embody stories of perseverance and faith. I work primarily with acrylics, applying thick, textured layers to create tactile surfaces that mirror the depth and complexity of the human experience.

Each stroke in my work carries a message of hope, faith, and restoration. I draw inspiration from scripture and from the quiet strength of everyday people around me — individuals who continue to rise, to shine, and to believe despite adversity.
