About The Artwork

From november 2020 till now, march 2021, I was watching very closely the becoming of a newborn mother: my daughter. The girl that becomes a woman and a mother. The physical process aswell as the mental process. You can read about everything but when it happens to you it is all new and you feel quite helpless in the beginning. Nobody told yo uit would be like this. The pain and the happiness, the helplessnes and the power you feel inside. In the series of drawings I made, and still are making, I try to catch all those things that are so unique fort he woman that becomes a mother for the first time. In this drawing I tryed to catch all those things. The young mother is isolated from what happens in the rest of the world. Living in that pink cloud. It is her and her baby that counts. I show her colored world and behind her the world is symbolised in grey and black movements of reed. It moves by the ever changing wind. I started with first painting the background with gesso and inkc. The big movements of waving reed. then started the drawing. The birds bring their best wishes. The drawing is new and not yet framed, but that can be arranged if you wish. Unframed it comes in a tube when sold. Of course with the signed certificate of authenticity.

Monique van Stokkum (1952) is a Dutch artist. Currently she makes drawings. THE DELICATE LINE Since 2015 I make drawings again. In the beginning of my artist careeer I started with drawing (ca. 1975), then a period of painting followed . And now I'm back to my old love. The directness, grim, tenderness and strength of the drawing. THEME Of course I am touched by what is happening in the world. In my work I do not react literally on the world news. Yet it is about universal themes in which people can recognize themselves. The viewer looks for elements of life. My work gets meaning through their associations and fantasies. Landscapes, animals and people are my sources of inspiration. Not strange for someone who is born and raised in the woods. I can now say that the death of my son (2005) brought about major changes in my work. Now, after more than 10 years, I feel the space again which was not there for a long time. Since 2013 I make my Objects to Remember. Large and small painted objects in wich memories may be stored. Works of art with an extra personal significance.
