About The Artwork

“Old Bunny” They say that after forty a woman chooses either a figure or a face. This phrase awakened in me different memories and thoughts. I remember a summer day in the mid-90s, I was standing for tickets home from Moscow to Vilnius. The stuffy hall of the Belorussky railway station, a long, long queue. The only entertainment is looking at the people in front. Not far off in front of me is a well-dressed woman at her 30-ties. A suit made of thin gray wool ideally fits a chic figure - it is clear that Gd well rewarded her and that she did a good job on it in the gym. Nice high-heeled shoes, thin stockings and neat blonde hair. At that time, to see such a well-groomed woman at the train station was a novelty. I bet that most of the queue, especially the men, also followed her every step with interest. And now her turn comes, she pays and turns to face us to the exit. And we all gasp in silence. A very tired, old wrinkled face looks at me ... The dissonance between face and body was so amazingly great that even after so many years I remember my shock. You can go to endless workouts, massages and braces, you can strip naked and prove to everyone that you still fit into the dress of your youth, but Face it - you have already lost. A 20-year-old nymph doesn't need these tricks, all she needs to get attention is to let her hair down, put on a shorter skirt and take off “wonderBra”. Don't get me wrong: I am absolutely for taking care of yourself and your body. It is not even discussed. I really do not know the correct solution or answer from this situation, in which sooner or later every woman finds herself ... but I feel that I tend to choose a “face”. And you? The drawing is from the series of works "What’s up, Bunny".

For the past few years, I have been concentrating on the theme of animate and inanimate nature. Starting with the theme of roots and delving into the beauty and variety of small details of flowering meadows. In the context of nature, I include lonely images of people as an integral part of the living world. In depicting human beings, for me, it is not only their physical beauty that is important, but also the transmission of their momentary mood, psychological well-being. Sometimes in my drawings I allow myself to be ironic about myself and what I find funny or remarkable in other people. But at the same time, I consciously avoid depressive and aggressive images, because it contradicts my inner ethic not to multiply the violence in the world. I would like to classify my work as Magical Realism, but I think my work reflects more of a psychological Existentialism, looking for its embodiment in natural motifs. 1995-1999 studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 1999.
