An original pen drawing by Marce King. Sold in a white framed Most of my work is currently inspired by lgbtiqa+, non-binary, gender fluid and transgender people. It tackles gender identity and expression, tied in many ways to my own life experiences. My figures can sometimes be read as masculine or feminine, but should not be interpreted as binary 'male' or 'female'. This particular piece is about relinquishing control and accepting new possibilities and accepting there is more than what we are conditioned to believe. Relinquishing control can open a world of possibilities. I don't think people need to have a specific connection to the above themes to understand and related to the concept of relinquishing control and letting something new opportunities in. The main figure is in black pen. I love drawing in pen as it's unforgiving and demands restraint and control. I also enjoy the end look of pen and reminds me of my printmaking days and etching and line work in Lithography. In this particular image the coloured ink and watercolour wash was laid down first randomly and expressively and the shape made influenced the position of the figure.
