"Rest" Drawing

I am a Korean painter based in Ulsan, South Korea. Born in Gyeongju, a city rich in history and cultural heritage, I have always been drawn to the quiet beauty of nature and the memories held within familiar landscapes.

My work primarily explores pine trees and forests, capturing their distinctive forms, subtle light, and changing atmospheres through realistic painting. For me, trees are more than subjects to be observed. They are places of rest, resilience, and quiet reflection. Through them, I seek to express the warmth and comfort that nature offers in our everyday lives.

My artistic practice brings together traditional Korean ink and Western oil painting, combining the fluidity and depth of ink with the richness and texture of oil. Through this approach, I explore a visual language that connects Korean artistic traditions with my own contemporary sensibility.

Many of my paintings are inspired by places I have visited and moments shared with my family. These experiences become personal memories that gradually transform into landscapes on my canvas. Rather than simply reproducing what I see, I aim to capture the emotions and atmosphere that remain long after a moment has passed.

I hope my paintings offer viewers a quiet space to pause, breathe, and reconnect with their own memories. Through the familiar yet enduring presence of pine trees and forests, I wish to share a sense of peace, warmth, and the simple beauty of being alive.
