Art Description

Drawing: Charcoal on Paper.

Billie Holiday's voice was ethereal, spooky at times, and always seemed to cut to the soul.

She suffered in her life. Some struggles of her own making and others not, but I look at this image and see her brokenness. While this isn't Mister (her most beloved boxer for years,) I like the older Billie with this little chihuahua, Pepe. I think it shows the immense love she had to give, and captures her deep concern for others; especially animals.

The softness of the charcoal seemed to be the perfect medium for this moment between Billie Holiday and Pepe.
