About The Artwork

I was inspired by a couple of white statues in an old Soviet sanatorium from 1950s. The environment changed so much and the surrounding space and situation is no more helpful for them to be what they were made for: to represent a sporty soviet people, man and woman, so graciously confident and self-contented, the new Soviet Apollo and Venus. The white half-abandoned couple feels dramatically separated by the grown-up tree. Time made the situation change to a theatre play about two mythological characters, heroes of the former civilization. I made two parts diptych to emphasize the separation of two and the vertical format. The artwork is not framed. I consider it is better to frame it as one peace with passepartout, separated by the line of passepartout, and under glass. But you can also frame two parts separately without passepartout placing them close to each other on the wall. Framing pastel works is better when you put the inner frame inside the passepartou or make an additional layer of cardboard stripes between the glass and the work to prevent touching the artwork to the glass. That is because I do not fix the pastels to preserve the colours.

I was born and still based in Kyiv, Ukraine. Work with graphics and painting, in the 2000s became interested in urban space, architecture and monumental art, which was reflected in artistic practice as a work with urban landscape. In 2018-2021, I was a curator of mosaic works during the renovation of monumental mosaics of the 1960s. Since 2015 — a member of the group for the preservation of the photo archive of the Ukrainian Hutsul artist Paraska Plytka-Horytsvit. In 2018-2019 — mosaicist and a representative of the author V. Melnichenko on the artistic part of the restoration of the fountain at the Kyiv Palace of Children and Youth "Stars and Constellations" (1963-65, authored by A. Rybachuk and V. Melnychenko). In 2021 — curator of the restoration of Kyiv Central Bus Station mosaics (1960-61, also authored by A. Rybachuk and V. Melnychenko). Graduated Contemporary Art at Kyiv Academy of Media Arts in 2021. Fellow of the Gaude Polonia program, 2021
