About The Artwork
This is a study of a male figure. It was completed in 2015. It is heavily influenced by classical drawing principals. This includes an exploration into the relationship between the anatomical structure and gesture of the model, and the observation of three dimensional forms. The primary purpose of this study was to further my understanding of anatomical construction, of both the human figure and as a method of drawing. The drawing is on cream paper. The image measures 11 x 8 inches, and the frame measures 15 x 12.5 inches. The frame includes a cord for hanging. Please see photographs for frame details.

I am fascinated by the challenge of expressing the personality and emotion of a subject behind a physical likeness. I greatly admire many of the portrait and figurative painters of the 18th and 19th centuries, not just for the mastery of their craft, but also for their naturalism and sensitivity to human expression.
