The Boxer captures the face of a fighter with a single, fluid line—pared down, yet deeply expressive. In this minimalist portrait, strength is found not in muscle, but in gaze. The set jaw, focused eyes, and quiet tension suggest a lifetime of discipline, resilience, and controlled intensity. The si...

Contact us.Ma’Lyssa Ja’Nay is a contemporary American artist based in Austin, Texas. Born in Chicago and raised between Chicago, Texas, and Memphis, she creates abstract mixed-media paintings, contemporary graphite portraits, and minimalist line drawings that celebrate individuality through stylization and form.
Her artistic journey began after watching the iconic drawing scene in Titanic. She was captivated by the elegance of seeing the human figure translated into graphite, discovering how a simple pencil and paper could transform the figure into something timeless and sophisticated. That moment sparked a lifelong fascination with drawing. Her grandfather later introduced her to the fundamentals of facial structure and proportion, while her early passion for fashion illustration eventually led her to study fashion design and photography in Houston, Texas.
Today, Ja’Nay’s graphite portraits are distinguished by enlarged eyes, elongated proportions, sculptural hairstyles, and refined tonal contrasts. Through simplification and exaggeration, she creates imagined individuals that invite viewers to consider who they are, what they may be thinking, and the stories they carry. Alongside her portraiture, her abstract mixed-media paintings explore color, texture, and composition through a distinctly contemporary lens.
