The Triumph of Pan Drawing

Drawing: Graphite on Paper. I have always loved Poussin's 1635 painting of the Triumph of Pan and decided to make my own interpretation. "Satyrs with pipes and Maenads with tambourines are dancing in a woodland glade before the image of Pan, which takes the form of a pillar surmounted by a bust of the God. A Maenad rides on the back of a goat, the animal that accompanies the followers of Bacchus, to whom it is sacred". ref Hall's Dictionary of Subjects and Symbols in Art. Like Poussin I decided to make the Pillar support the torso of Pan rather than just the bust. The drawing was made from imagination, with no reference to models either from life or photo.
