Wish You Were Here Drawing

Extinction evokes horror, struggle and death. Yet there is also a peace at the end that we forget at the end of a life, as life stops in time and begins living in eternity. The Extinction Series juxtaposes the dark terror of death and the brilliance of eternity as the audience is invited to reflect on the darkness and brightness of the shiny saturated surface. "Wish You Were Here" depicts a portrait with out a subject. The emptiness where a face should be hints at the longing of identity, and the desperation to fill it. In a subtle paradox, the emptiness of the picture is actually filled in, while the traces of a shirt and torso are actually formed through negative space. This piece thus touches on humanity's discomfort when approaching nothingness, and our attempts to fill it, all the while with a mind that wishes you were here.
