Class-If-Y Installation

Concrete Poem - Writing from my favourite writers interspersed with my own writing, which creates a mosaic of collective identity. This work is inspired by those icons and writers who inspired me as a young woman: Patti Smith, James Baldwin, Dorothy Alison, Sylvia Plath, Morticia Adams, Tennessee Williams, Nick Cave and John Waters. I wanted this piece to give a beautiful reflection to those who feel they are an "outsider", the rebels, the outcasts, the ones who feel they don't "fit in". I chose felt as a medium as it was soft in contrast to some of the text which is as much about love, hope and idealism as it is about the cynicism, bleakness and powerlessness, marginalised peoples often experience.
