Hair Artwork

This is a collection of paintings that combines watercolor, specialty paper, tea bags, newspaper, texture mediums, sand, ink—you get the idea. What I am exploring lately is painting faces using a wide variety of media. I use the word "painting" deliberately, because that is how my work feels to me. I am painting with a variety of media. I work on the "edge," taking the two-dimensional format and expanding it or pushing its limits and playing with people's expectations of those limits. To keep the rich texture that is created available to the viewer, the frame is incorporated into the artwork itself. The frame is not something that is added later, is external to and "confines" the piece. My aim is to create a complete piece of art that remains open to the viewer who then has the freedom to continue to enjoy the texture and to be able to witness and revisit the steps in the creative process. The work remains a part of the living world; organic and not sealed and set inside a time capsule. The paper used is heavy weight archival paper and the work is done on a Birch Painting Panel with hardware attached.
