A native of California’s Santa Cruz mountains, the Montara manzanita has a bell-shaped petal geometry of constant positive Gaussian curvature everywhere, except at the tip, where the sign of curvature changes to avoid singularity. Very tiny flower (around 0.24–0.28 inch wide), yet a great lesson in practical geometry. The background is an outline of a Gaussian curve. #14/52 of the on-going Flower geometry project, Jan.-Dec. 2019.

Science inspires my art, particularly mathematics and geometry. Mountain, ocean, cloud, trees, or flowers, people all celebrate geometry in their own way. Big and small, the connections are an endless source of inspiration and awe hiding in each of my images that multiply the experience of looking at the art. Most artworks featured in my gallery are extracted from the ongoing Math-Art series available in print or format with all major distributors, Apple, Google, and Kindle.
