About The Artwork
This is one of a group of paintings I made over the summer of 2018. Once again exploring mark making with energetic brush strokes, building complexity and ambiguity. In all my work I am interested in spaciality and movement. From a purely internal vision I aim to emotionally engage the viewer in an immersive world of gestural and dynamic brush work. My work is purely abstract and therefore I don't want to influence your response to it by naming paintings with suggestive titles. Instead I use the year and day the work was finished to give the work a numeric identifier. The work is signed and titled on the reverse and will be signed on the front before shipping. If you prefer I can paint the edge, (which is currently white), a colour to match one of the colours in painting.

My studio is in Dartmoor, England. I studied Graphic Design and worked as a creative director in advertising but I've always felt compelled to paint, initially still life and portraiture, but for many years solely abstract. I find abstract expressionism to be the most emotionally engaging and inspiring period in modern art, particularly gestural/action painting. I usually have several paintings in progress at any one time. I build up layers of texture then abrade them to deconstruct and bring concealed areas back to life. Anything familiar is removed or reworked, continually refining the composition. I work without a plan or preconceived idea, allowing instinct to be my guide, exploring the unknown and solving artistic problems.
