"The research material for the exhibition is a former yellow-star apartment block in Pest, exploring the history of the building and its inhabitants. The grandparents of the artist moved into a corner flat at Bulcsú utca 21/A in 1956 sharing the premises with the former occupant Glasner Piroska whose property was nationalised under the government decrees of the time. The artist was born into this household in 1990 and has lived there with his family ever since. His works are based on the internal architecture of the building as well as the reflections on conversations and historical documents collected over the years. Whist researching the social history of the Jewish and Christian inhabitants the internal suspended corridors provided the main inspiration and path to investigate the everyday life of the block's community. The subject matter of his research has emerged out of the interweaving stories of the local residents supplemented by extracts from works of literature. His source martial draws to a great extent on the memories of the 1940's, and in particular on the book by former resident and writer Ungváry Rudolf "The experience of an apartment block around the turn of 1944-45" - the personal account of the wartime experiences of residents sheltering in the cellars of the yellow-star building during the Soviet siege of the city. It was during this historical research that he completed his series of pictures documenting life on the four floors of the building - the comings and goings on the suspended walkways of the internal courtyard. His studies rework the fragmented geometric forms of the wrought-iron corridor railings intersected with its repeating, reflected patterns. The starting point and raw material is provided by the grid-like motifs of the rails and its surrounding architecture.
