Across the Road Painting

Representational oil painter, specializing in heirloom portraits with an appreciation of small things that display some heartfelt truth, especially “people doing what they do” in simple situations. My art-making process relies heavily on observation and drawing. Faces have a singular fascination for me as the psychology behind the surface unfolds while you pore over the features of an individual’s facial map. Getting in close to the subject is important because that is where visual truth of character resides. Older faces are quite beautiful, as a life is all laid out before the viewer and each feature detail narrates how it has been lived. Use of hands provides an authentic harmony between body and spirit. Making art brings me a sense of contentment as well as an appreciation for the qualities of being human.
